The highest academic degree in African Studies, requiring original research, extensive fieldwork, and the contribution of new knowledge to the chosen area of specialization.

Core Entry Requirements
- MA (African Studies) degree in respective areas of specialization or other related degree with an eligible CGPA of 5.0 to 7.0.
- MPhil-registered students seeking conversion must submit and defend a research proposal and obtain at least 60%.
- All students must undertake fieldwork.
